If your morning has more drama than a Game of Thrones season finale, your morning routine might be in need of an overhaul. This simple, five-step morning routine will start your day off right.
1. Get your a** up.
You might think those 5 more minutes of sleep are helping you face the day. You’d be wrong. Every time that alarm goes off, your body goes into panic mode. As anyone who’s ever misplaced their cell phone can attest, panic mode sucks. It saps your energy and it drags your mood down, way down.
If you’re having trouble getting out of bed at the first chirp of the alarm, try Mel Robbin’s 5 Second Rule. The impact goes way beyond how long you sleep.
2. Work up a sweat.
A little early morning activity will get your blood pumping and your a** in gear. It doesn’t have to be a major sweat session. Actually, you’re probably better off picking something simple you’ll actually do.
So try a few yoga poses - the downward dog is an energy booster. Do some jumping jacks in your pj’s or take the dog for a brisk walk. Aim for 10 to 15 minutes of activity. You’ll be amazed at what it will do for your energy level throughout the day.
3. Clean Up Your Act.
Wash away your sweat and your sleepiness with a quick shower. Resist the temptation to take a steamy hot shower. Instead, keep the temperature cool and use an invigorating body wash. Look for something with citrus, peppermint or eucalyptus scents. These smells are known to help wake you up and improve alertness.
4. Drink Your Breakfast.
No, we’re not advocating for mimosas everyday. Save those for Sunday brunch with your besties. Instead, grab a drink that will help you wake the f*ck up. Tea!
Wake The F*ck Up tea combines with taste of cinnamon with a hint of chocolate. Yum. Not only is it high in caffeine, but it also contains Yerba Mate, a natural stimulate with 24 vitamins and minerals, 15 amino acids, and antioxidants. Bonus points if you actually sit down for five minutes and enjoy your tea instead of sucking it down on your morning commute.
5. Set an intention for the day.
While you’re sitting there, drinking your tea, grab a sticky note or an index card and set your intention for the day. This isn’t a to-do list. It’s just one thing that you really want to get done today. The one most important thing that absolutely must happen so you can end the day feeling accomplished. This might be finishing a proposal for a client, reading your kid a bedtime story, or actually getting your ass to the gym.
The first time you do this, it might feel impossible to pick just one task out of the mass of things you have to do. But it will get easier with practice.
Bonus Lifehack: Beyond the Morning Routine
A great morning starts the night before. You won’t be eager to put your routine in practice if you’re not well-rested. Before you go to bed, pack your lunch, lay out your clothes, and drink some Get Your A** In Bed or Dream tea so you can wake up bright-eyed and ready for a kick-ass morning.
