The practice of matcha is more than drinking a cup of tea. It’s a tradition of meditative preparation. It is remembering to enjoy the little things – like the fragrant steam rising from your Snarky mug.
And it’s about being present in your moment. Do yourself a favor and spend a few self-care minutes with matcha.
Step 1: Take Your Pick

Gyokuro Ceremonial is our ceremonial blend matcha. Its smooth and fancy demeanor is perfect if you “fancy” a traditional cup of matcha. Since it is regarded as the highest quality matcha on the. market, it’s perfect for matcha lovers and purists!
Smooth Vanilla and Summer Peach are our culinary-grade blends. Called such because it's harvested from older tea leaves with more exposure to sunlight, these matchas are amazing for mixing up a modern recipe or flavor combo. If you haven’t tried matcha before, these unique flavors will have you adding matcha to your tea routine in a delicious fashion.
Step 2: Gather Your Tools
Once you’ve picked the matcha that serves you the best today, grab your sh*t. You’ll need a few items to make traditional matcha, but we’ve got you covered. Here are our matcha-making accessories – highly recommended if you’re ready to take the plunge into a mindful tea routine.
If you don’t have these accessories, here’s what you’ll need from your kitchen:
Your favorite mug
A whisk or frother of your choice
A scoop or teaspoon
Your preferred milk
The matcha toolkit is fundamental to traditional preparation methods and ensures that your matcha will be well-mixed and a frothy b*tch.
Step 3: Meditative Preparation
You’re ready to make your matcha. Take a deep breath. Concentrate on your hands and work surface. And begin.
Start by heating 4 ounces of water to 176°F – just below boiling. Pour into your mug (or matcha bowl).
Traditional matcha tea needs to be sifted through a fine mesh sieve. Snarky has you covered. Our matcha blends are already sifted to bring you the super-fine powder you need to make the smoothest tea.
Scoop 1.5-2 teaspoons (or 1 Perfect Scoop) of matcha powder and add it to your mug or bowl.
Step 4: Whisk Away
Grab your whisk or frother and vigorously whisk the matcha. You know you’re on your way to a perfect cup when your matcha is clump-free – about 20 seconds. Get it right and your matcha will be smooth and creamy.
No need to steep the tea or remove a filter. Once mixed, add 4 ounces of your preferred milk, and stir. Or let out your inner purist and skip the milk! Matcha is enjoyed your way … on your time.
Step 5: Mindfully Enjoy!
Indulge in your tea right away. Matcha is intended to be consumed in small sips, and modern matcha can be paired with a sweet or savory snack. Yum! Add honey or simple syrup to sweeten it up to your liking.
Matcha is a practice of intentionality. So sit quietly, focus on each sip, and feel your mind and body embrace the positive force of this Japanese tradition. Let go of all the crazy sh*t going on out there. Give yourself a few meditative minutes to enjoy the practice of making AND drinking your matcha.
